Nya Rituals × Yuri Ida Matcha Bowl

A vessel designed for ritual.

Crafted exclusively for Nya Rituals by Japanese ceramist Yuri Ida, this matcha bowl embodies the union of tradition and modern design. Thrown from super fine black clay, it carries a quiet strength and elegance.

The bowl features a high-gloss interior, allowing the vibrant green of ceremonial matcha to shine, while the matte exterior offers an earthy, tactile contrast. Its smooth body is complemented by a carved base, balancing refinement with a subtle, organic texture.

Minimal yet soulful, the design honours both function and artistry — wide enough for whisking, curved to fit comfortably in the hands, and unique in character, as no two bowls are ever alike.

Warm your bowl — Pour a little hot water into your matcha bowl, swirl gently, and discard. This protects the ceramic and helps your matcha blend smoothly.

Measure your matcha — Add 1–2 teaspoons 3g of matcha powder into the bowl using your Nya Rituals spoon.

Add water — Pour in about 40ml of hot (not boiling 70 degrees) water.

Whisk mindfully — Using your bamboo whisk, whisk briskly in a “W” or “M” motion until the matcha becomes frothy and vibrant.

Savour the ritual — Sip slowly and enjoy as is, or pour over warm milk for a smooth matcha latte.

Dishwasher safe or wash with warm soapy water

Always whisk with water first. If making a latte, add milk only after whisking to protect your bowl and keep your matcha silky and lump-free.

My journey with ceramics began after moving to Australia in 2012. Having always admired Japanese pottery, I struggled to find pieces here that reflected the same beauty and craftsmanship — so I began creating my own.

Working with Australian clay and traditional Japanese techniques, I craft pieces that are both functional and inspiring, designed to bring beauty and presence into everyday life.

Each piece is one of a kind — a reflection of nature, texture, and intention — waiting to become part of your daily ritual.
